Awesome Style Blogs

As most of the people who know me will attest (especially my husband), I have a small obsession with clothes, shoes and accessories of all kinds. However, since I have reached maximum capacity in my closet, I have decided to work on remixing my wardrobe instead of just buying a bunch of new stuff.

Therefore, I have been looking for tricks and hints for the remix and stumbled across these great style blogs that have helped so much!

Putting Me Together: this blog is created by the awesome Audrey who always has something interesting to say about the remix. The greatest things about this blog are 1) she tells you where all of here clothes can be found, 2) they are usually budget or mid-range-price stores, and 3) her photos and comparisons are amazing. It always gets me thinking about how I can do the same things with my pieces. Check them out here: Putting Me Together

Go Chic or Go Home:  I just discovered this one today and I think it is going to be my new guilty pleasure (sorry Pinterest)! This blog / community / shopping tool allows you to not only see others style and share your own, it also allows you to upload images of your entire wardrobe, categorize them (color, season, etc), remix them on the site, and also upload items that you are considering purchasing (they link directly to retailers so you can buy online) right into your digital wardrobe to see how you can combine them before even buying them! The programmers behind this site are genius and I would like to thank them for coming up with this brilliant idea. Check them out here: GCOGH

Yay style - you always make me happy :)

Life Right Now!

There are just so many things going right in life right now - let me just share a few:

Trip to Vancouver - oh Vancouver, I have been missing you lately. Mostly the walkability of your lovely downtown. But lucky me, I get to visit you with my parents thanks to a dance competition for Kayla! I will be walking around with my Starbucks in hand, visiting my favourite shops and taking a quick jaunt to Granville Island to pick up some of the best BBQ Sauce EVER - Rockin' Moroccan! Love it!

New House - we will be moving into our new house starting October 1! Although I am not necessarily looking forward to the job of packing and the actual move, I am so excited to finally be in a house where I think I will be living for a while - stay tuned for pics!

DMA Conference in Las Vegas - thank you Direct Marketing Association for hosting this conference in Las Vegas! It will be my first trip there and I am super looking forward to it. If anyone has any must-do's while I am there, please let me know :)

I'm on a Boat - this year my parents decided to get us all a Disney Cruise for Christmas - awesome! I am so excited I can't even explain! So we are going to be on a fabulous Disney Cruise ship, decorated to the nines, for Christmas. Although I will miss our tradition of Boxing Day shopping at West Edmonton Mall (which we have done every year since Ryan and I have been together), I think that I can manage in order to check this one big one off my bucket list!

I'm so excited for everything I can't even focus on one :) Life is great.

being back at home

After a year and a half of a wonderful adventure in Vancouver, we are back in Alberta and loving every minute of it! My happiness in Calgary, AB is caused by the following things:

1. Being close to family. I forgot how much fun it can be to attend those family barbecues that used to seem like such a hassle :) Impromptu visits from my parents and our siblings, plus being a short drive away from Edmonton has already given us more exposure to the family than we have had for the past 1.5 years.

2. Big sky. I used to think that my grandma was crazy when she moved away from Jasper and the mountains with the excuse that she felt claustrophobic. But only in coming back to Alberta from BC do I notice the HUGENESS of the sky. It's definitely the wide open spaces that they sing about in country songs - and I love it. First picture I took when we got here? A picture of the sky :)

3. Attending weddings. Since the move has brought us closed to family and friends, we have been able to attend a couple of weddings that we would otherwise not have been able to attend. I love being part of our friends and family's fun and special days. Thanks to Melissa and Daryl and Kelly and Terry for letting us be a part of yours :)

4. A new house. Still to be confirmed - stay tuned!

Also, with a little more personal time on my hands, I am looking forward to blogging more often!

Family + Sky + Weddings + House + Blogging = Happiness :)

The Royal Wedding

Half the world thinks it's highly over-rated...and the other half was watching it! I spent my morning watching TLC's replay of the entire wedding (couldn't bring myself to get up in the middle of the night to watch it live), and I am just stunned at the beauty and excitement over the entire event. 1 million people filled the square outside of Buckingham Palace to catch a glimpse of the Prince and Princess's balcony kiss...and they look like they are so in love and having such fun! So whether you were an avid watcher or not, I am happy to see that there are so many people who just want to be in the presence of such a happy and wondrous occasion! And check out the dress...really what all us girls were waiting to see! Just stunning!

Great Style

So, we all know that we feel better when we look great - but a lot of people don't have the time or the money to spend on themselves to get the style that they actually want. A lot of people go without it for so long that they forget to EVER get back in the groove - welcome to "What Not To Wear".

My friend Brittanee wants to healp people get out of their rut and find their own individual style. Couldn't we all use that? She is competing to be a stylist at Southgate Centre in Edmonton and once you take a look at her outfits, you'll KNOW that she's the one you want helping you with your wardrobe! So go give her your vote today! And everyday! Just click here to go to the Southgate website and vote for Brittanee Tomkow!

Great Ideas!

Now, a great idea is hard to predict, but when you get one, you get this feeling in the pit of your stomach like it's the right thing to do. And they can show up at any time - mine showed up last night at 2:30am - keeping me awake for hours while I wrote every detail down so that I wouldn't forget it. It's funny what can happen in your dreams! Here are just a few examples of great ideas - what's yours?
